It clashes with coverage of some of the other major news events of the year, including 7News – War in UkraineABC Four corners – Burst the Canberra Bubble,
Insight – Intimate Terrorism on SBS and Brittany Higgins’ interview from the project on network 10.
The new Most Popular Presenter award will be named after Bert Newton, whose nickname is also synonymous with Presenting, the Logies and Presenting the Logies.
“We are so thrilled that Bert is being recognized in this way and will be part of the Logies every year in the future,” said his widow Patti of the four-time Gold Logie winner and 20-time Logies host, who died last October. “It was such a big part of his career and he loved it, so I know he would be very happy with the honour.”
Hugo Weaving, Anna Torv and Deborah Mailman all took home the double honor of being nominated in the industry’s most popular and notable categories, for their work in Love me (Bingerie), The newsreader (ABC) and Total control (also ABC) respectively.

Love me is one of the favorites, nominated for seven awards in total (four public and three industrial). Will Lodder, one of its young leads, is a contender for the Graham Kennedy People’s Choice Award for Most Popular New Talent, but the ABC’s Tony Armstrong is likely to be a strong vote-giver as well.
The newsreader is in the running for six prizes in total (two public, four industrial) while Total control has four nominations (two public, two industrial). by Stan The tourist has three, all in industry-voted categories, the same number as Foxtel’s final season of Wentworth (one public, two manufacturers).
But he is At home and away (Seven) leading the tally in the most popular categories, with five nominations in all.
There are no clear favorites in the realm of reality, however. SAS – who is on the hunt for the first time this year – may have some novelty on his side as he takes on the old stagers.

It’s not a game, never tires of saying SAS Chief Instructor Ant Middleton. But that may come with a price.
The ceremony will take place at the Gold Coast Convention Center and will be broadcast live on Nine, owner of this masthead, and 9Now on June 19. Voting for the most popular categories is now open on tvweeklogiesvote.com and remains open until the end of the red carpet telecast on award day.
