iPhone SE 3 (2022) Problems and How to Fix Them

If you’re looking for an affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone SE is your best bet. In its third generation, the iPhone SE (2022) retains everything that makes the series great: flagship processing, the latest software, a compact size and a relatively cheap price. However, like any smartphone, the phone isn’t perfect and has its fair share of bugs and issues. We will look at some common iPhone SE 3 (2022) issues and how to fix them.

Our opinion : iPhone SE 3 (2022) review

Problem #1: Random shutdowns or restarts

Ryan Haines/Android Authority

One of the most common issues faced by iPhone SE 3 (2022) owners is the phone randomly shutting down or restarting.

Potential solutions

  • Some users say that a factory reset helps fix the problem, at least for a while. Be sure to back up all critical files and data, as this step will erase everything. Go to Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone and press Reset all.
  • Setting up the device as new by entering recovery mode works better. You can find the instructions on how to do this below.
  • This problem seems to be more prevalent since the update to iOS 15.4.1, but a few users also encountered this problem with iOS 15.4. Since there is no suitable workaround, the only option is to wait for another software update to fix the problem. Be sure to report the issue to Apple through the feedback form.

Problem #2: The phone does not ring when receiving calls

Some users have reported that their iPhone does not ring when they receive a call.

Potential solutions

  • Make sure you haven’t accidentally turned off the phone. Check the silent mode switch on the left side of the phone above the volume rocker. It’s a little rocker that you might have flipped without realizing it.
  • Check that focus mode is not activated. All calls, messages and notifications are automatically muted when the mode is activated. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center and tap the focus icon to turn it off if enabled.
  • If you have connected your phone to a Bluetooth device then it could be a software issue where the phone still thinks the devices are connected. Open Control Center, turn off Bluetooth and check if the problem goes away. You can re-enable Bluetooth afterwards.
  • Go to Settings -> Phone and check if Silence unknown callers is on. If so, turn it off to disable this feature.
  • Go to Settings -> Sounds and Haptics. Make sure the ringer volume is set to maximum. You can also change the ringtone to something louder.
  • The iPhone SE (2022) is rated IP67, so it’s water and dust resistant. However, if your phone took a dunk, there could be a clog. Wait for the phone to dry completely and see if the problem goes away.
  • In extreme cases, it could be a hardware problem. Set up a go to your Apple store. They will run diagnostics and see if it is a hardware or software issue.

Problem #3: Apps not working/phone freezes

Some iPhone SE 3 (2022) users find that apps on their phone won’t load or get stuck.

Potential solutions

  • If an app is not loading, check if the problem is just your phone or everyone. Look at Apple System status to see if it is a larger problem. For non-Apple apps, check Detector down.
  • If this is just your phone, there may have been a problem setting up your new phone from a backup. It is best to remove the problematic app and reinstall it from the App Store.
  • If you can’t download an app or it takes a long time, long press the app icon on the home screen and tap Prioritize download.
  • Some users say restarting the phone does the trick. In extreme cases, you may need to factory reset the phone and configure the device manually (do not load apps from a backup).
  • If an app is causing the phone to freeze then you will need to perform a soft reset. Press the volume up button, press the volume down button, then press and hold the power button until the phone restarts and you see the Apple logo.

Problem #4: The phone automatically went into dark mode

A few users are randomly seeing dark mode enabled on their phone even though the theme has not been changed in the settings menu.

Potential solutions

  • Go to Settings–>Accessibility–>Display and text size and turn off all options (except auto-brightness if you want to keep it on). Yes Appearance said Lighteven if the phone is in dark mode, switch the appearance to Dark anyway. Then restart the phone, go back to settings and set it to Light again.

Issue #5: “Update required to use cellular data” error

Some iPhone SE 3 (2022) owners are having mobile data connection issues and are seeing this error on the settings page.

Potential solutions

  • If the mobile data settings of the phone are not automatically updated, you will have to do it manually. Go to Settings–>General–>About–>Operator and follow the prompts to update carrier settings.
  • You can also try to reset network settings (this will reset Wi-Fi settings). Go to Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone and press Reset network settings.

Problems #6: Apple CarPlay issues

Users are having a problem getting their phones to connect properly to Apple CarPlay. Either it doesn’t connect or the screen is blank even though Siri is responding.

Potential solutions

  • There is no workaround for this issue, so you may have to wait for a software update. You can try standard troubleshooting to see if that helps.
  • If you’re having trouble with a wired connection, try another USB cable. For wireless connections, make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on by going to Settings -> Wi-Fi and Settings -> Bluetooth.
  • Make sure Siri is enabled.
  • Go to Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled.
  • Go to Settings -> About -> CarPlay and press Forget this car (if it is a previously established connection). Then follow the process of setting up CarPlay from scratch.

iPhone problems don’t have many workarounds and usually rely on standard troubleshooting or software updates. Apple’s software updates tend to bring lots of bug fixes, so be sure to update to the latest version of software when it’s available. You can check the iOS Updates Page to see the bugs fixed by the new updates. Remember to notify Apple of any bugs and issues encountered while using the feedback form.
