Margaret was one of the adopted daughters of crime novelist Michael Peterson, who was convicted of murdering his second wife Kathleen and staged her falling down the stairs of their North Carolina home in 2001.

“Margaret slowly lifts the veil and has an amazing arc throughout this story,” Sophie shared with The cup May 10.

“There’s a lot of corruption and layers, but my character Margaret is the adopted daughter of Michael Peterson – she and her sister, Martha, have been under Michael’s care since birth. But their mother also died by falling down the stairs, when Michael Peterson was in this house.

“So there’s a bit of a Stockholm Syndrome, and the way they blindly support it throughout this trial is something that we explore a little more in the show than the docuseries explored.”

Turner especially enjoyed playing Oscar winner Colin Firth’s on-screen daughter for nine months on the Atlanta set.

“I have to say, watching Colin Firth play that role and the transformation up close, it was really amazing to have a front seat for that,” the Game of Thrones alum said.

“I’ve never really worked on anything where an actor necessarily went through such a physical transformation. His voice, the way he held himself – I couldn’t see Colin anymore.

“I was inspired, not just by their process and how Colin would come into character, and I just felt like I won a contest, but I feel that way with everything I do. I’m like, ‘How did I get here?’
