Cannes: Lee Jung-jae, Rebecca Hall, Joel Edgerton and more in the Hollywood Reporter’s Festival photo diary

Nothing compares to walking sticks.

This has never been truer than this year when the international film festival rolled out the iconic red carpet to celebrate a milestone 75th anniversary, as always, with the French Riviera as a backdrop. Home to A-list stars, famous authors, musicians, models, and yes, even TikTok creators, the 2022 Cannes film festival recalibrated to maximum energy after an unprecedented two years amid the pandemic.

To capture glamour, stars and the stage, The Hollywood Reporter partnered with an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, creative director and visual storyteller Julien Ungano present exclusive images of Cannes 2022. Ungano goes to THR Cannes photo diary after serving as creative director, creator of videos and stills of the viral content of the world premiere of Dunes at the Venice Film Festival. Additionally, Ungano has written and directed two films, And after all and state of the state.

THR will update the gallery, with Ungano legends, through the Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 17-28.

Day 1 :

I’m going directly from the airport to Le Majestic hotel for my first portrait: Virginie Efira, one of the greatest French actresses. There’s nothing like starting discreetly with the mistress of ceremonies!

Day 2:

It will forever be known as Superior gun daytime. I head to the Martinez hotel and connect with the team Superior gun. They are all only here for about six hours before leaving for the royal premiere in London.

First stop: director Joe Kosinski. I manage to catch Joe in a suite that Paramount has rented, which can only be described as part office space, part fast food restaurant, and part dressing room.

A quick stopover in Lewis Pullman’s room (call sign Bob) to, shall we say, ‘chill out’ with some liquid courage, then head to premiere. What an absolute spectacle! I could fill an entire album separate from the premiere, but it’s important to stay on mission here.

Day 3:

I go to the Palace to meet one of my favorite actors of the moment, Omar Si. It’s the first time I’ve met Omar, but we have very good mutual friends and we hit it off immediately. A bushel of flowers to match the flowers on his shirt and, boom, let’s go!

Next, my top contenders for Best Dressed Korean Icons Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo Sung. These two walked into the room and everyone stopped what they were doing – a rare quality in people.

It’s back to Martinez to meet the British actress, director and jury member Rebecca room. I am greeted by his 30-year-old agent. I take a quick look as she finishes getting ready. Rebecca appears to be levitating from her dripping bedroom in a new upstart design house called Gucci.

I go back to my room to edit, order pizza and fall asleep.

Day 4:

Another day, another walk on the Croisette. I meet Vicky Krieps down by the pool. She wears these beautiful Chanel overalls in black leather. We chat for a bit and order some sparkling lemon water which never came but we didn’t let it ruin our morning.

I meet Joel Edgerton at the Screen Australia apartment. I could barely keep my eyes open. We agree that after 35, the jet lag is different. Two double espressos were quickly consumed.
