Why Love Island Australia star Anna McEvoy prefers dating older men

Anna McEvoy may have won love island australia Season 2, but her choice of partner was a deviation from her usual suspects.

It has nothing to do with looks, career, sense of humor or charisma, but rather the age difference – it normally goes for older men.

“Older guys, they’re kind of around,” McEvoy told 9Honey via Zoom. “So they have more adult cats and I think they’re more intriguing.”

When McEvoy was 17, she lost her virginity to her very first boyfriend, a 23-year-old DJ she met at a party.

The thirties Where is your head? The podcast host said when she spotted him across the room, she immediately knew he was older, and that’s what she found attractive.

“I was like, ‘Ooh,'” she laughs. “He looked a little more mature, had a little stubble, he just looked cool.”

McEvoy says she and her former boyfriend dated for six and a half years, and because he had more life experience than her, she found him “much more interesting” than the men of his age. She also said she felt like he had “a lot of respect” for her.

“I’ve always been attracted to older, more mature men,” she says.

But it’s not just looks that lead McEvoy to his favorite partner, rather the mature appearance is something McEvoy considers indicative of a mature character.

“I’ve always been pretty mature and really had a hard time dating guys my age, I just couldn’t do it,” McEvoy said. “I feel like I’m dating someone three years younger when he’s my age.”

“Nobody wants to mother a boyfriend, do they? You have your own mother. It’s her job. Treat me like a girlfriend and appreciate me and love me.”

Since her first boyfriend, the reality TV star has dated a variety of men older than her, including one 15 years her senior.

However, she recognizes that age is not always synonymous with maturity. In fact, she current partner, Michael Staplesis only four years older than her, but she says he is very mature – while in her late twenties she dated a 43-year-old man, who she says was the one of the “most immature” men she had ever been with.

Like everything, there are, in McEvoy’s opinion, downsides to dating older men.

“Sometimes they can have a bit of baggage because obviously they’ve been dating a lot longer than you have, so they might have exes coming back into the picture or they might be set in their ways,” she says. .

For the most part, however, McEvoy has had positive experiences with his older partners.

“I’ve always felt really appreciated and loved and cared for,” she says, noting how, in her experience, they are “less commitment phobic” and “don’t play games.”

“They really pushed me to do things with my career.”

The model says that, compared to younger men who are more likely to do “ten shots of tequila,” with older men, she asked more about her long-term goals and plans.

“It always pushed me to pursue what I want to do with my life and prioritize that.”

McEvoy also says sex with older men is “much better.”

“Sex is way more fun, it’s exploratory,” she says. “And I became more comfortable with myself when having sex with older men.”

McEvoy credits Staples’ maturity for why their relationship didn’t fall apart when they were stuck quarantining together in a hotel room in Thailand earlier this yearafter both contracting COVID-19.

“We literally didn’t argue,” exclaims McEvoy. “Michael was super positive, he was very reassuring. We ended up having a lot of fun. I think it tested him as a person, but I also think if I had had a younger boyfriend in that scenario , that would have been bad.”

The couple are no strangers to COVID-19 restrictions taking their toll on their relationship habits or forcing them to grow closer – they did, after all, meet during lockdown in Melbourne.

“It’s so weird, because it’s such a new relationship, but it feels like we’ve been together for a long time, like years and years,” she says.

“We were free for about a month and then we went into a tough lockdown together. Then we went out for a bit and came back. So I just feel like we know each other inside and out.”
