‘Genshin Impact’s New Archon Quest Just Solved a Huge Mystery of Knowledge

The tradition of Genshin Impact is deep and wide. And that’s especially true for the nation of Liyue, the second region Teyvat players can explore. During the Traveler’s adventure, we learn that three of the five Yaksha died in the Great Archon War and one is missing.

That lost Yaksha is Bosacius, who HoYoverse featured in Archon Quest and the story teaser released on June 2. We know Xiao as the only living Yaksha, but not much has been said about his comrades. Genshin Impact 2.7 finally delves into the story of the five Yakshas in its final chapter – and works Yelan with his first major role in history. Here’s everything you need to know about Bosacius and the history of the Yakshas. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)

Who is Bosace? – Bosacius was the eldest of the five Yakshas and their leader. He is a four-armed man with electro vision, who helped him fight demons and other perils during the Archon War. He seemed to have a close and brotherly relationship with fellow countryman Yaksha. In his story teaser, he can be seen discussing a dress with another Yaksha and drawing on Xiao’s face with ink. According to Xiao, he was also the first Yaksha. They called him “Brother Bosacius”.

Those who are aware of the latest Genshin Impact Archon Quest should already know who Bosacius is. However, it’s possible that fans discovered his name via the latest story teaser released on YouTube even before reaching the final chapter. HoYoverse recently uploaded the story teaser “Only Old Memories Remain” on their official YouTube channel. It shows Bosacius in the depths of the chasm with Yelan’s ancestor, Boyang, who was trying to get him to remember his name.

In the final Archon Quest, the Traveler enters the Chasm with Yelan, Arataki Itto, and Kuki Shinobu on an unexpected adventure. This unlikely team encounters Xiao, who was looking for Bosacius there because of a rumor that an “Unnamed Yaksha” appeared years ago.

Who are the Yakshas? – The five Yakshas were named Adepti Guardians whom Rex Lapis (aka Morax or Zhongli) tasked with defending Liyue from the creatures manifested by the hatred of the Archon War gods. In other words, they were summoned to fight demons and other dark beings from fallen gods.

The Adepti (or Illuminated Beasts, it’s unclear) are animal guardians tasked with protecting Liyue. The five Yakshas were known as particularly powerful and dedicated Adepti who slew enemies under Rex Lapis’ command, but accrued “karmic debt” as a result. Their names were Bosacius, Indarias, Bonanus, Menongias and Alatus. There was also Pervaseas, who was apparently a lower level Yaksha.

Each of the five Yaksha also had a personal name given to them by Rex Lapis. Alatus, also known as Xiao, was the only Yaksha to survive the Archon War.

What happened to the Yakshas? – As mentioned earlier, the Yakshas accrued a “karmic debt” for endlessly killing enemies. It’s never explained what “karmic debt” really is, but it appears to be some kind of dark energy that consumes the user as they take lives. Karmic debt also affects those around the Yaksha, which is why Xiao is so reluctant to stay with others.

Indarius, Bonanus and Menongias died a long time ago because of their karmic debt. In “The Guardian Adeptiand “Only Old Memories Remain”, it is implied that Bonanus and Menongias killed each other after going insane. Bosacius, whose death has not been confirmed, succumbed to a similar madness which took away his memories. His status was not confirmed until the recent Archon Quest.

In his character profile, it is explained that Xiao survived madness thanks to the sound of a Dihua flute. The trailer for “The Guardian Adepti” implies that the melody comes from Venti, the Anemo Archon. Fun fact: that’s also a reason why the Xiao/Venti pairing is a thing.

The fate of Bosace – You like spoilers, huh? If you’re like me, you’ve probably been looking for this answer all the time, right?

Either way, Bosacius is dead. Xiao went into the chasm to find her and encountered her “afterimage”, which is basically a ghost that acts like the person right before she died. Bosacius’ afterimage was belligerent and confused, just like the others before they passed. Xiao paid her respects and left with the Traveler and his team before they met the same fate.

Bosacius was sealed in the chasm along with a man named Boyang, who was the only other survivor of their crew. In his story teaser, Bosacius struggles to remember his past and only suddenly remembers his name after passing out from the exertion. Both are likely dead long before Traveler and Xiao discover their afterimages.

However, this description does not do Archon Quest justice. Go play.
