Sarah Jessica Parker has opened up about one of Hollywood’s biggest feud rumors, calling the situation with former Sex And The City bandmate Kim Cattrall “painful”.
After years of relative silence, Sarah Jessica Parker has finally opened up about the tensions with former Sex And The City co-star Kim Cattrall.
speaking on The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast, Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays New York writer Carrie Bradshaw on the show, was careful choosing her words to describe his fractured relationship with Cattrall.
Acknowledging “that it is very difficult to talk about the situation with Kim”, Parker said she wanted to set the record straight on the “painful” situation, insisting that it was not about of a two-way “catfight”.
Feud Rumors been simmering for yearsbut came to a head in 2017 when a third sex and the city movie was mentioned. The project could not have gone ahead despite Cattrall’s contractual demands.
“They didn’t feel comfortable meeting where she wanted to meet, and so we didn’t do the movie because we didn’t want to do it without Kim,” Parker recounted. “Were we [she and co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon] disappointed? Sure. But it happens.
The actress went on to explain that she was hurt by the way Cattrall spoke about the situation in the press.
“There were a lot of public conversations about how she felt about the show,” Parker said, adding, “I spent many years working very hard to always be decent with everyone on the show. set, to take care of people, to be responsible to and for people, both my employers and the people I feel responsible for as the producer of the show.
“And no one else has ever spoken of me that way.”
Shortly after the film collapsed, Cattrall sat down with Piers Morgan for an interview, during which she denied stopping production over contract disputes, saying she just didn’t want to reprise her role. .
She added that she was disappointed with the negative backlash and how it was handled by the cast, adding that the four women were “never really friends”.
“And that’s really where I take on the task of the people of sex and the city and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker to the extent that I think she could have been nicer.
Later in the interview, Cattrall, 65, spoke about Parker, 57, again, saying “they were never friends.”
“I don’t know what his problem is, I’ve never done it,” she said.
Cattrall was never included in the planning of And just like that…which Parker said was a choice made in light of his response to requests for a third SATC film.
“We didn’t ask him to be part of this [And Just Like That] because she made it clear that it wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it didn’t feel comfortable to us anymore, and so it didn’t cross our minds,” Parker said.
“It’s not ‘slamming’ it, it’s just learning. You have to listen to someone, and if they speak publicly about something and it doesn’t suggest it’s a place they want to be, or a person he wants to play with, or an environment he wants to be in, you come to an age where you’re like, “Well, we hear that.”
She added: “I just want to say one thing, because you gave me this opportunity: it’s so painful for people to keep talking about this ‘cat fight’ – a ‘fight’, a ‘fight’ ‘, a ‘fight’. I’ve never uttered aggressive words in my life about anyone I’ve worked with — ever.
“There is no ‘fight’ going on. There has been no public argument, arguments, conversations or allegations by me or anyone on my behalf. I don’t I wouldn’t. That’s not how I would have it.
“So I just wish they would stop calling it a ‘catfight’ or an ‘argument’ because that doesn’t reflect [reality]. There was a person who spoke.
During the first season of And just like that… Samantha – who has moved to London – features in several episodes via text messages to Carrie.
Her absence from the group is attributed to a falling out she had with Carrie after she was dropped as a publicist. Although Samantha never appears on screen, the series hints at the couple catching up and potentially making amends in the finale.
“It’s so over for me, so it’s not continuing… It’s like an echo of the past… I loved it [Samantha]. I loved him so, so, so much. It’s tough competition. The original show is in all our imaginations. But for me, it’s clean.
The SATC alum argued that saying goodbye to Samantha Jones was the “right” thing to do in her career.
“And you can’t go against that feeling,” she claimed. “I never want to be on a set and not be there.”
She explained of the revival: “I was never asked to be part of [it]. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media.
As for her reaction to fans disappointed by Samantha’s absence from the show, she said, “The biggest compliment I can have as an actor is not to be missed.”
