American actor Tyler Perry has opened up about the infamous Oscars slap, revealing what really happened after the incident.
Tyler Perry spoke publicly for the first time moments after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars.
The 52-year-old star was seen talking to Smith after the infamous incident.
During a question and answer session at the Tribeca Festival, the missing girl The actor explained that he was “defusing” the situation, without comforting the Oscar-winning actor.
“I left early to go see Chris to make sure he was okay. Being friends with the two was very difficult,” he said.
“Believe me, as painful as it was for all of us in the room, it was also painful for Chris, who was a pure champion for the way he handled it.
“But I want you to understand that something extremely painful happened to [Will] as well.
” That’s not an excuse. He was completely wrong in what he did. But something triggered it – it’s so outside of everything it is.

“He couldn’t believe he did it. And I look this man in the eye, saying, ‘What are you doing? It’s your night,” he said.
“And to come all this way to winning an Oscar. It was one of the highlights of his career that he so desperately wanted.
Perry then praised Rock as a “pure champion” for handling the incident. He added that “something happened that was extremely painful for [Smith] as well.”
“That’s no excuse, he was completely wrong, but something clicked. It was so out of all he is,” Perry continued.
In March, Rock took to the Oscars stage to present the Best Documentary Oscar. He looked at Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, and joked, “Jada, I love you. “GI Jane 2”, I can’t wait to see you.
The joke didn’t go down well with the actor, who is bald as a result of his struggles with alopecia.
After being seen on camera rolling her eyes, Smith, 53, rushed on stage to slap the comedian.
Once the independence day star returned to his seat, he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”
The men in black the actor took to Instagram and apologized to Rock for punching him, saying “violence is toxic and destructive”.
“My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith wrote. “Making jokes at my expense is part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of place and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.
“There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Black-smith announced his resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in April.

“The Board of Governors has determined, for a period of 10 years, beginning April 8, 2022, that Mr. Smith will not be permitted to attend Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including, but without limited to, the Oscars,” the Academy says.
The statement continued: “We want to express our deepest gratitude to Mr. Rock for keeping his cool under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our TV show.
Smith would be allowed to keep his Oscar he won this year for his role in King Richard.
