All I Know About Love (Stan)

All I Know About Love Dolly Alderton is the perfect show for when you want an easy watch that you don’t need to question too much.

Inspired by real events and real people (with some fictional elements), it follows four friends who move to London in 2012 and live in a shared house they couldn’t afford, shortly after finishing their university studies.

Main character Maggie, her best friend Birdie, and their two other housemates are in that weird part of life as they work humiliating jobs, drink the cheapest bottles of wine possible, and play games with the walking red flags with which they come out with the aim of being “very feminist deeply”.

“I’d say you’ve got two more years to get out of this,” Street (yes, that’s her name), Maggie’s love interest, tells her in the first episode, summing up the whole vibe of the show.

Press play and let the waves of nostalgia for the days when you were as messy as that wash over you.

Under the Banner of Paradise (Disney+)

The fact that Andrew Garfield is the main man will probably pique your interest here, and for good reason: his performance in this series is Golden Globes/Emmy worthy.

But he’s not the only good thing about Under The Banner of Heaven. This show is a more complicated murder mystery – with a focus on mystery – that will have you hanging around for about 10 minutes in the first episode.

In a fictional town in Utah sometime in the 1980s, Garfield, aka police detective Jeb Pyre, investigates the death of a Mormon mother and her baby which appears to have something to do with the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS).

If you’re unfamiliar with FLDS, you’ll have a lot of questions at first, but you’ll still get lost in this series.

Jiayue Qiu, 22, is training to be a tattoo artist behind her father Rong Qui’s back: he thinks she is still studying medicine.

Spoken in a mixture of Mandarin, Cantonese, Nankiness, Shanghainese and English (with English and Simplified Chinese subtitles throughout), Inked is a bittersweet indie comedy-drama that explores Jiayue’s experience as a first-generation migrant living in Auckland, and the tension between wanting to impress their family and live up to their expectations with a desire to follow their dreams.

I have a feeling this will become something of a cult hit for years to come – why not get started now so you can have the honor of showing it to your friends before anyone else?
